Foothills Park Engagement Photography - Lynn and Daniel

Foothills Park Engagement Photography - Lynn and Daniel

Last month, Lynn and Daniel invited me to their home in the Palo Alto Foothills for their engagement session. Before I even got to their front door, I was greeted by their energetic pup, Koda. And as I stepped inside their home, I met Lynn and Daniel's other fur baby, their cat Baloo. After some quick dinner prep,

Lynn and Daniel brought me to the gazebo in their backyard. En route to the top of the hill, I may have inadvertently fallen and bruised my thigh... But, rest assured, the camera was okay, and that’s what really matters!

The average person goes to Disneyland maybe a few times in their lifetime. But if your family is like mine, then you plan your entire year around the multiple Disneyland trips you’ll be making. Trang and Jacob are those kinds of people too.

When I first started emailing Amber and Josh ahead of their engagement shoot, Amber shared a specific vision she had in mind. She said she wanted their photos to emulate "a cool new band, ready to drop a sick album." Let me tell you: I think we nailed it.

Mega and Mitch have an uncanny way of reading my mind. It happened countless times at their engagement session in San Francisco. I would bring my camera up to my eye and think to myself: "It would be perfect if Mitch kissed her forehead right now." And BOOM — he did so without me even saying a word. Or I would frame up my composition and think to myself: "It would be cute if Mega playfully glanced back at Mitch." And BOOM — she did just that! Dream clients? You bet!

Tiburon Engagement Photography - Tiffany and Wilson

Tiburon Engagement Photography - Tiffany and Wilson

When trying to schedule engagement sessions (or any outdoor portrait session, for that matter), it’s my typical practice in the winter months to ask my client to choose a backup date in case it rains. For Tiffany and Wilson, we, unfortunately, were rained out on their first date of choice. But after some rearranging of our calendars (including Tiffany switching shifts in the midst of a hectic work week), we landed on an alternate date during the Bay Area storms and crossed our fingers for dry weather.

One of the best things about being a photographer? Having an opportunity to reconnect with old friends. To reminisce about the good old days. To talk about where we’ve been, where we are, and where we envision we’re going in the near future. That was what I was able to do with Marielle and Brandon, on a brisk Sunday evening in October.

Disney California Adventure Engagement Photography - Liezl and Cameron

For Liezl and Cameron, the Disneyland Resort is a magical place —after all, they did meet each other while traveling to Disneyland with a large group of mutual friends. So after we bonded over our common love for all things Disney and Pixar (like me, one of their favorite Pixar films is "WALL-E"), an engagement session at Disney's California Adventure Park just seemed right.

Carmel-by-the-Sea Engagement Photography - Alfie and Jan

Carmel-by-the-Sea Engagement Photography - Alfie and Jan

Alfie and Jan are big fans of natural landscapes and architecture. And since they’ll be getting their architectural fix when they get married later this year at San Francisco City Hall, the couple decided on the town of Carmel-by-the-Sea for their engagement session. The two even went out of their way to visit the area to do some location scouting: sending me coordinates, photos, and videos of potential locations. Talk about dream clients, right?

Bridges Golf Club Wedding Photography - Tatiana and Charles

Bridges Golf Club Wedding Photography - Tatiana and Charles

Charles and Tatiana's beautiful summer wedding had it all. The day started off with handmade bridesmaids gifts made by Tatiana herself, and some 16 year old scotch with Charles and the guys. On a gorgeous California afternoon, family from all over the world gathered to see these two tie the knot, at Bridges Golf Club in San Ramon. And throughout the day, there was a constant mention of two things: Charles side-swept hair and who got to eat the last bite at meals. The day ended with the unpredictable combination of cake, cigars, and inflatable bananas. Yup, inflatable bananas.

Point Reyes Engagement Photography - Holly and Cody

Point Reyes Engagement Photography - Holly and Cody

Holly and Cody first met in the most awesome way possible: while having a few pints at The Davis Beer Shoppe. And when I met up with the couple to discuss photography for their upcoming wedding, we chatted over some daytime beers on a Friday afternoon. So when Holly and Cody arrived at Drake's Beach in Point Reyes for their engagement session, naturally Cody had a can of beer in hand.

Ever since our very first email correspondence, I had an instant connection with Namphuong and Jeff. And upon first meeting them at my all-time favorite East Bay gastropub, Hog's Apothecary, I confirmed that we were kindred spirits. Over craft beers and delicious grub, we chatted about anything and everything. I found out that we share a common love for travel, photography, and food. We share the sentiment that, if it weren't for our families in the Bay Area, we'd probably live in Portland, Oregon. And, somehow, the one place where they wanted to take their engagement photos just so happened to be the one place that I've been dying to shoot at.

Saratoga Springs Wedding Photography - Amanda and Brent

Saratoga Springs Wedding Photography - Amanda and Brent

I'd like to use the metaphor of a s'more to tell you about this unforgettable wedding I photographed. This s'more, in particular, had four ingredients. First, you have the graham crackers (the foundation and support): they represent the lifelong family and friends who've gathered to celebrate the couple and their special day. Second, you have the oh-so-gooey marshmallows (the sugar and the fluff) representing Saratoga Springs, the gorgeous outdoor wedding venue where the couple exchanged vows underneath the towering redwoods and lush greenery. Third, you have the chocolate (the sweetness) embodied by a chocolate brown lab named Kaylee, who stole everyone's hearts (mine included) with her gigantic smile and never-ending excitement for her mom and dad. And fourth? Well, that was something extra special, and you'll have to scroll down to see just what that is...

Pleasant Hill Wedding Photography - Monica and Joaquin

Pleasant Hill Wedding Photography - Monica and Joaquin

Trust is hard to come by these days. And faith? Well, that’s an even rarer occurrence. I witnessed both on Monica and Joaquin’s wedding day, which took place at the beautiful grounds of the Pleasant Hill Community Center. Before I continue, it’s important to note that Monica and Joaquin’s wedding ceremony was set to take place outdoors. And on the eve of their big day, the weather forecast predicted a high chance of rain. Despite these odds, they proceeded as planned and had faith in whatever God had in store for their wedding day. Safety second? I say yes.

Santa Rosa Winery Wedding Photography - K & K

It was an honor and a pleasure to help photograph this Santa Rosa wedding. It was absolutely perfect. The venue was gorgeous. The decorations were ornate. And the day went off without a hitch. My favorite part? Seeing the nervousness and excitement in a little pup's face as its owner (the bride) got ready to marry her groom.

For those of you who know me, you already know that I'm not much of a baseball fan. However, I am a fan of weddings. And this wedding in particular had quite a few baseball details sprinkled throughout the beautiful day. So you know what? By association, I guess you can call me a baseball fan then. Right?!
