Janelle and I go way back. We went to elementary school together. And then high school. And we've managed to remain in the same social circle together in college. And did I mention that my adorable Chihuahua-Pomeranian puppy is the offspring of her two family dogs?
This winter, Janelle will be graduating from Dominican University with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. When she approached me to take her senior portraits, it was a no-brainer! She did give us our puppy after all. So I guess we can call it even, now...
Just kidding! :)
On Saturday, Janelle and I (along with our location scouts, my wife and the pup!) set off to explore the beautiful campus of Dominican University. She showed us her favorite on-campus sites and the classrooms where she spent countless hours studying and working. And throughout our campus stroll, she shared laughs and smiles and her stories from her four years as a nursing student.
During our post-session lunch at Sol Food, a local gem with Puerto Rican cuisine, Janelle mentioned that nursing really is her passion. She feels alive when she sees someone who needs her help and when she's in a situation that requires her to spring into action.
In his film "Patch Adams," the late Robin Williams said: "Being happy is the best cure of all diseases." Janelle -- while I don't doubt that all your hard work and studying will pay off throughout your future years as a nurse, remember that it's the things that can't be taught that can become your best assets. Your smile will surely heal many patients in your career.
